31636 is a design studio working in the fields of research, product and architecture with a multi-perspective approach. Thus it explores the environmental, social, political, cultural and aesthetic influences that shape design for a post-carbon environment while questioning values, needs and potentials. The use of bio-based materials, local techniques, the reuse of materials and simple solutions play a major role in this.
31636 designs for clients or initiates projects itself with the aim of formulating the current challenges of our time, particularly in connection with the socio-ecological transformation of the existing buildings, into economically viable solutions.

Collaborating since 2019, Avital Greenshpon and Ferdinand Knecht founded 31636 in 2024.
Avital Greenshpon studied architecture at Münster School of Architecture and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. After her studies she was the competition lead at Bruno Fioretti Marquez in Berlin. She has been a lecturer at the Department of Design at Münster School of Architecture since 2020 and a teaching and research assistant at the Chair of Design and Housing of Prof. Verena von Beckerath at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2024.
Ferdinand Knecht is a trained cabinet maker and studied architecture at Münster School of Architecture and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He is working for Muck Petzet Architekten in Berlin since 2019. In 2020 he founded frntr_arc, a curated archive and online gallery for furniture design. He has also been part of the international architecture platform and network ReduceReuseRecycleArchitecture since 2023.
